The Visual Effects Society (VES) will present VES 2004, its sixth annual Festival of Visual Effects, on June 18-20 in San Rafael, Calif. The three-day event will feature presentations and panels headed by visual effects supervisors and their teams, which focus on visual effects and how they enhance the storytelling process.
“The VES Festivals are the cornerstone of storytelling for visual effects,” stated VES founding exec director Tom Atkin. ” As we enter our sixth year of festivals in the United States and our fourth in Europe, VES relishes the opportunity to intimately share this process with its members and visual effects professionals.”
Sponsored by Animation Magazine, Discreet, Eyetronics, Ex’pression Center for New Media, IBM, The Hollywood Reporter, Millimeter, Nvidia, Side Effects Software and Variety, the event will include presentations on Shrek 2, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, The Day After Tomorrow, Troy, Van Helsing and Around the World in 80 Days. Other topics to be tackled include film visual effects techniques in Games and makeup effects in the digital world. Jamie Hyneman, one of the stars of Discovery Channel’s MythBusters, will also be on hand to discuss how visual effects are employed on the series.
The festival will be held at the Rafael Film Center at 1118 Fourth Street in San Rafael, just 11 miles from San Francisco. The venue has a seating capacity of 330, so early ticket ordering is recommended as nearly all past VES Festivals have been completely sold out.
