With studios in Atlanta and Toronto, digital effects studio SPIN has taken its operations to the West Coast with the creation of SPIN West VFX in Vancouver. The new location hit the ground running with work on the ABC series Stephen King’s Kingdom Hospital. Other current projects include shots for Sci Fi Channel’s Stargate SG1 and Spymate for Keystone Pictures.
Headed by Emmy-nominated artist Doug Campbell, the Vancouver studio was created to serve SPIN’s increasing business in the television and film arenas. Vancouver is the third largest film production center in North America.
Campbell, formerly of GVFX Vancouver, is an experienced effects artist with more than 20 years experience. His primary weapon, the new Hi-Def flame on Tezro from Discreet Logic, is supported by an array of such tools as Maya, Shake and Combustion. Late last year the Toronto shop upgraded its two post suites with new HD-capable inferno/flame systems. Most recently, the Atlanta location, led by Keith Adams, upgraded its inferno/fire suites to match.
