Pixar Renders RenderMan 11
Pixar Animation Studios has released RenderMan 11, the latest version of its Academy Award-winning visual effects software. New features include global illumination and deep shadows.
RenderMan 11, which has already been used to put the finishing touches on The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, promises to enhance effects accuracy, speed up the rendering process and simplify the production pipeline.
According to Pixar, its Deep Shadow technology – an advanced shadow map format – allows users to produce highly realistic shadows, especially for animation. Deep Shadow also provides methods for pre-filtering shadows and collecting transparency and volumetric information for purposes of enhancing shadow accuracy and enabling new effects variations.
RenderMan 11 also delivers global illumination and ray tracing effects to extend the artist’s control over effects such as reflections, refractions, color bleeding and shadow penumbras.
RenderMan 11 is available immediately. For more information, visit https://renderman.pixar.com/
