Monarch Computer Systems of Tucker, Georgia has released its Ultimate Linux Box (ULB) line of workstations and servers for 2005. These systems allow a number of options for operating systems, but are designed with Linux compatibility in mind.
The newest models use the brand new AMD Opteron processors going up up to the Opteron 250 on the latest Tyan workstation motherboards. They support up to 16GB of PC 3200 REG ECC DDR RAM when the Tyan S2885 K8W mainboard is selected, and up to 1.8 TB of storage using 250 GB SATA hard drives. RAID levels 0, 1, and 0+1 are available on the motherboard, while RAID 5 is available with an optional hardware RAID controller. The Monarch ULB 2005 offers users a choice of CD or DVD ROM drives, as well as CD or DVD burners.
Another big selling point for Monarch is the incorporation of the Lian-Li PC V1200 & V2000 Aluminum Quiet PC Towers, which are available in both black and aluminum. These cases are designed for improved airflow so systems run cooler and quieter. Separate compartments for hard drive storage keep heat generated by drives isolated and away from the CPU and video card hot zones.
Monarch Computer Systems’ ULB line of Linux workstations received an Editor’s Choice Award for Best Technical Workstation from Linux Journal magazine. The new systems are now on sale at www.monarchcomputer.com, or by calling 1-8-MONARCHPC (1-866-627-2472).
