Kaydara Releases MOTIONBUILDER 5

Kaydara Inc. is set to release MOTIONBUILDER 5, the latest version of the company’s real-time 3D character animation software. The next-generation solution features a unique, real-time, photorealistic rendering engine and Kaydara’s “smart” character technology (HumanIK). The company says the package allows for complex character set-ups and animation to be created in minutes instead of the days and weeks required by other systems.

In a release, Kaydara president Michel Besner coments, “There is a wide disparity in the 3D industry between the capabilities of high-end, big budget motion picture companies and those of smaller studios. Using our strong experience in real-time motion capture and high-end animation, we have created the first tool to break the technical barrier.”

Updated character animation features in MOTIONBUILDER 5 include a new story-timeline that allows users to easily edit 3D animation tracks in combination with audio, video and constraints. A new independent camera track allows producers, special effects directors and 3D artists to work out camera shots and timing independently of the animation timeline for maximum flexibility.

Enhanced Character Animation functionality includes added support for quadruped characters, hand floor constraints, finger and toe controls, squash and stretch and additional neck bone controls. MOTIONBUILDER’s rendering engine takes advantage of hardware capabilities available through OpenGL and nVidia technologies.

MOTIONBUILDER 5 also features a built-in clip art library with sophisticated characters, environments, textures, motions and more. The software natively supports Kaydara’s FBX file interchange format and also offers file format support for OBJ, DXF, 3DS, mp3 and AAC, as well as new FBX partners including Wings3D and RealViz.

Kaydara will also provide a Professional Edition of MOTIONBUILDER 5, which will include support for advanced motion capture editing tools, a software development kit, integration with asset management systems and personalized customer support and product development.

MOTIONBUILDER 5 is priced at $995 and will be available August 2003 on Windows 2000, Windows XP and Mac OS X 10.2 and higher. MOTIONBUILDER 5 Professional is priced at $3,495.
