Sony Pictures Imageworks, the digital effects and animation studio behind Spider-Man, the Stuart Little movies and the Oscar-winning short The ChubbChubbs, will integrate Maxon’s Cinema 4D into its matte painting production pipeline.
The award-winning Cinema 4D is a modeling, animation and rendering solution that integrates with such software as Adobe After Effects and Maxon’s 3D painting program, BodyPaint 3D, also in use at Sony Pictures Imageworks.
“Maxon is serious about their artist-oriented philosophy, and they have completely transformed our workflow for 2 1/2D and 3D matte paintings as a result," says Ivo Horvat, Sr. lead matte artist for the Sony Pictures Imageworks matte painting department. "While the 3D option has always been one we have used in the past, we are now able to output complex shots with a speed I had never seen previously in my experience with other software packages.”
Imageworks is currently in production on Cursed, The Forgotten, The Aviator, Spider-Man 2, and the computer-animated adaptation of kid lit title The Polar Express. Sony Animation also recently announced the start of production on Open Season, its first all-CG animated feature.
