IBM Dips Into Nvidia Chip Biz

IBM Corp. and NVIDIA have announced a multi-year strategic alliance that will see IBM manufacturing NVIDIA’s next-generation GeForce graphics processor units. The agreement will also give NVIDIA access to IBM’s comprehensive suite of foundry services and manufacturing technologies.

IBM plans to begin manufacturing the next generation GeForce graphics processor this summer at IBM’s plant in East Fishkill, N.Y. The new facility began operation last year, and will ramp up in capacity throughout 2003.

The partnership introduces competition for NVIDIA’s long-time partner, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd., which will reportedly continue to serve NVIDIA as well.
