Discreet, a division of Autodesk Inc., today announced that 3ds max 7 will be shown for the first time publicly at SIGGRAPH, to be held in Los Angeles, Calif., Aug. 10-12. The newest version of the company’s widely used 3D modeling, animation and rendering software will incorporate character studio, an advanced character motion toolset, along with other new features.
The addition of character studio brings a unique constraint-based non-linear animation mixer, highly scalable behavioral crowd simulation capabilities and extensive motion-capture filtering and editing facilities to 3ds max. Version 7 also offers Normal Mapping, a workflow accelerator for gaming; and Edit Poly Modifier, designed to improve ease of use and speed of animation. Other character animation tools include Skin Wrap, Skin Morph, Parameter Collector and Editor, Reaction Controller and a Skin Shader that uses Sub-Surface Scattering.
