The latest version of the animation software CelAction2D is being launched on the 4th of June at MIFA in Annecy, France. Version 2 has over 650 improvements and new features compared to the prior version.
CelAction2D is a suite of integrated programs that allows animators to design 2D character models on computer as resolution-independent vector graphics or scanned bitmaps, and animate them according to exposure sheets that are fully user-adjustable.
New features in version 2 include reparenting and reversible kinematics to speed up the animation process, a new streamlined and focused workflow to speed up construction of character models, more actor automation, new graphic effects such as Outline and Color Key, an improved dope sheet that highlights key poses and interpolation, and support for more complex vectors using gradients and transparency.
CelAction creative director Andy Blazdell notes that all the new functionality has come from suggestions made by professional animators working on major TV and film projects. CelAction2D is currently in use by animators all over the world. Previous productions include the award-winning 2DTV, The Big Knights, and François Le Vaillant. Major series currently in production using CelAction2D include I Am Not an Animal from Baby Cow Animation, Yoko! Jakamoko! Toto! from Collingwood O’Hare Ent. and Peppa Pig from Astley Baker Davies.
