Artists Get Bent into Shape

Three artists have combined forces to launch Bent Image Lab, an animation house and hybrid live action production studio headquartered in Portland, OR. Each skilled in different disciplines, Chel White, Ray Di Carlo and David Daniels aim to create an artist-focused environment where the bending of rules in encouraged, hence the name.

Chel White previously spent five years directing domestic television commercials with bi-coastal Curious Pictures. The Clio winner’s body of work includes spots for Reebok, Fila, Adidas, Lugz, Coors, USPS, TNT, Honda and Coca-Cola. His television credits include an episode of The PJ’s and a Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer parody for Saturday Night Live. In addition, three of his films have screened at Sundance.

Animator David Daniels most recently worked with Vinton Studios. Proficient with everything from computers to clay, his commercial credits include Levi’s, M&Ms, Fox Sports, Pepsi, Nabisco and Fanta. He animated all three seasons of Pee Wee’s Playhouse and was sequence director on Peter Gabriel’s Big Time music video. He has won a Clio, a Daytime Emmy, a Telly, an AICP award and a Mexican Creative Circle award.

Partner/producer Ray Di Carlo got his start with feature film director Jim Cameron on The Abyss and went on to contribute effects on a number of other feature films. He has produced and designed numerous high profile projects including spots for Nintendo, Reebok, Chase Manhattan, Cellular One and Raid, as well as a short for Saturday Night Live.

The principals are joined by live action director Kazuo Ohno, CG art director Adrian Grey, designer/modeler Jake Burgard and animator/graphic designer/Flash master Pascal Campion.
