Spanish kids can’t get enough of Pocoyo. Created by Spanish house Zinkia and co-proudced with Granada International in association with Granada Kids and Cosgrove Hall, the CG-animated series is now the staple of a new mobile TV channel with Vodafone Spain.
Under the Pocoyo TV banner, the service offeres back-to-back seven-minute-long episodes of the hit show in both English and Spanish. Zinkia holds all interactive rights to the Pocoyo brand and was able to nab a rare minimum guarantee from Vodafone Spain for six-month exclusivity. According to Variety, Zinkia is now in negotiations with operators outside of Spain to explore mobile opportunities for its other shows, Shuriken School and Sono.
The 52 x 6 series is centered on the simple adventures of the eponymous playful young boy dressed in blue and his friends, Pato the Yellow Duck, Elly the Pink Elephant and Loula the Puppy. The show , which airs over 100 countries worldwide received the BAFTA for Best Preschool Animation last year. The English-language version of the show is narrated by British actor Stephen Fry and is broadcast in the U.K. on CITV. Jose Maria del Rio narrates the Spanish version. U.K.’s Channel Five has the terrestrial rights to the show.
