And the most recent classic animation brand to get a reboot is Voltron.
The relaunch of Voltron gets under way with a new animated TV series called Voltron Force that is scheduled to start airing in 2011 on Nicktoons.
The new series will be produced by World Events Productions and Classic Media, which is handling the international distribution and worldwide merchandising and licensing for the franchise. They will be working on the project with Kickstart Productions, whose credits include Wanted and Wolverine and the X-Men.
Voltron Force will update the original 1984-85 TV series with five new space explorers joining the original characters for plenty of robot action.
Mattel will support the series with a new line of toys for fans of the series.
‘Classic Media is excited to partner with WEP and Kickstart Productions to reintroduce Voltron to the next generation of fans,’ said Nicole Blake, executive VP of global marketing and consumer products for Classic Media. ‘With a renewed emphasis on building a global consumer products program and its intrinsic transformation play pattern, anchored by Mattel as master toy partner, Voltron is poised to regain its position as a top kids property.’
