This weekend’s edition of Saturday Night Live will feature a spoof of the faith-based CG family franchise, VeggieTales. The parody, titled Religetables, is the first fully computer animated segment to appear on the long running sketch comedy show.
Religetables is the work of comedian Robert Smigel, the twisted mind that brought you The Ambiguously Gay Duo and Late Night with Conan O’Brien’s cigar chewing put-down puppet, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.
A regular contributor to Saturday Night Live, Smigel routinely works with J.J. Sedelmaier Prods. Inc to create his irreverent, retro-style 2D animations for the “Saturday TV Funhouse” segment of the show. To branch out into the CG realm, Smigel teamed with Hornet Inc. The commercial, film and design company with studios in Los Angeles and New York provided all of the 3D environments and character animation for Religetables.
Saturday Night Live airs at 11:30 p.m. on NBC.
