Among the projects in development for UPN’s 2004-2005 season is an action superhero series that will blend live-action with anime segments a la Kill Bill, according to Daily Variety. The as-yet-untitled hour-long series springs from the imagination of screenwriter J.F Lawton, who penned Pretty Woman and the Under Siege trilogy starring Steven Seagal.
In the new show, Lawton will combine his appreciation of action and pretty women with a premise that involves two female Saturday morning action stars whose TV costumes actually give them superhuman powers and allow them to fight crime. The anime segments will reportedly be used to convey fight and action sequences.
According to UPN Entertainment president Dawn Ostroff, the net has around two dozen drama projects in the cooker with producers Barry Josephson, Denise Di Novi and Aaron Spelling contributing.
