Travel Channel this weekend lets viewers visit New York City as seen through the eyes of some of the most famous comic book superheroes. Featuring animated and still graphics by The Studio at New Wave Ent., Marvel Super Heroes’ Guide to New York City debuts Sunday, Aug. 15, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT).
Spider-Man, Daredevil and other characters from the Marvel catalog serve as guides on a breathtaking tour of New York landmarks prominently featured in the pages of popular comics. Using Adobe After Effects and Alias Maya, The Studio’s design team created the main title sequence and accompanying graphics, which reflect traditional comic book art and combine storyboard frames with 3D maps and dynamic animations.
Scott Williams, creative director for The Studio at NWE, notes, "This project was especially exciting for us because so many of the people involved shared a passion for the comic book medium. It’s always a pleasure to work with Molly Hermann [exec producer for the Discovery Channel] and The Discovery Channel team, who foster wonderful creative collaboration."
Sharre Jacoby served as senior producer on the project for The Studio at NWE. Designers included senior art director John Priday and 3D artists Damon Wubben and Bryan Cox.
New Wave Ent. is a privately owned, full-service entertainment marketing and production firm headed by principals Paul Apel and Alan Baral. The Studio at New Wave specializes in motion graphic advertising, broadcast design and DVD menu design.
