Stroker & Hoop Snoop on Cartoon Network

Imagine Knight Rider with a private eye not quite as slick as David Hasselhoff and a talking car considerably less cherry than K.I.T., throw in a self-proclaimed master of disguise sidekick and you have Stroker & Hoop, a new 30-minute animated special premiering on Cartoon Network this weekend.

John Stroker is a bumbling rent-a-cop still mastering the art of lock picking, car-hood sliding and keeping his gun from falling out of his waistband when he bends over at the grocery store. Helping him in his chosen profession is his somewhat mercurial partner, Hoop, and his disobedient, talking hatchback, CARR, who has a knack for getting lost while on the job. Stroker and Hoop may not always solve the case, but they do get to sleep late, drive fast and shoot guns for a living.

The Stroker & Hoop debuts Sunday, Aug. 1, at 11:30 p.m. The special also serves as the pilot episode for a regular series that is scheduled to join the Adult Swim lineup in 2005. The pilot was produced by Scarsdale, New York-based outfit Wachtenheim and Marianetti, which also animates Robert Smigel’s TV Funhouse spots on Saturday Night Live.
