Stan Lee to Animate Hefner

Ever wonder what goes on behind the gates of the Playboy Mansion? Comic book king and Stripperella creator Stan Lee is teaming up with publishing tycoon Hugh Hefner to develop an adult-oriented animated series that takes viewers into the guarded world of the quintessential billionaire playboy and his stable of Playmates.

Hef’s Superbunnies, a joint venture between Lee’s POW! Ent. and Playboy’s Alta Loma Entertainment division, will feature Playboy magazine’s founder and editor-in-chief as the leader of a sophisticated, worldwide crime-fighting organization comprised of his famed beauties of the month. Each 30-minute installment will have Hef leading his femme fatales into battle against deadly enemies of democracy.

Producers for POW! Ent. are series creator Lee and COO Gill Champion. Exec. producers for Playboy Enterprises, Inc. are Hugh M. Hefner and Richard S. Rosenzweig, chairman of Alta Loma Ent. The associate producer is Jill Liberman.

Both parties are scheduled to announce the show today at Comic Con Int’l in San Diego, Calif. The convention runs through Sunday, July 20 at the San Diego Convention Center. Today’s main events include special appearances by the cast of Farscape, Kill Bill‘s Daryl Hannah and Edward James Olmos, star of the upcoming Battlestar Gallactica miniseries.

Saturday will see appearances by Matt Groening (The Simpsons), Hugh Jackman (Van Helsing), Angelina Jolie (Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life), Halle Berry (Gothika) and Sam Raimi (Spider-Man 2). Sunday’s special guests include Charles Barberian, Frank Bolle, Sal Buscema, Will Eisner, Neil Gaiman, David Goyer, Stan Goldberg, Alex Ross, Julie Schwartz, Wendy and Richard Pini, Howard “Howie” Post, as well as a special Star Wars panel.
