If its action and adventure you seek when you turn on the tube, Sony Pictures Ent. has your fix, provided you live in Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria. The company is set to launch AXN, its action and adventure cable and satellite network, on October 17 in those European countries. Programming will include both live-action and animated fare.
AXN will feature top Hollywood, European and international product aimed at advertiser-friendly 18-34 year olds. The subscription and ad-supported basic channel will deliver local language versioned content to viewers across the region, 24 hours a day. Cable operators are embracing the channel and a total of one million subscribers has already signed up to receive it.
AXN’s primetime schedule will feature the regional premiere of Spider-Man: The Animated Series, which airs on MTV in the U.S. The lineup also includes the Rob Morrow urban action drama Street Time, the Peter Weller sci-fi series Odyssey 5 and globally syndicated hits Mutant X and Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda. Wednesdays will offer viewers a full raft of reality programming including the new Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, Worst Case Scenario and Eco-Challenge.
Movies slated to air include director John Singleton’s acclaimed debut Boyz n the Hood, the gritty crime drama Where the Day Takes You and Brian De Palma’s classic suspense thriller Body Double.
