SCI FI’s Tripping Doesn’t Stumble

SCI Fi Channel’s new Thursday night lineup drew big numbers for the cable network last week. According to Daily Variety, the new CG animated series, Tripping the Rift, pulled in more viewers than the debut of the reality show Mad Mad House and the season premiere of the hidden camera prank series Scare Tactics.

The premiere of Tripping the Rift nabbed the highest ratings with the coveted 18-34 demo of any series episode ever aired on SCI FI. The racy comedy bowed at 10:30 p.m. with 2.08 million viewers along for the intergalactic voyage of the starship Free Enterprise and its misfit crew of aliens and robots. Stephen Root (Office Space, TV’s News Radio), Gina Gershon (Bound, Showgirls) and "Stuttering" John Melendez from the Howard Stern Show head up the voice cast.

Mad Mad House also scored mad ratings, hooking 1.57 million viewers with its 9 p.m. debut. That audience apparently stayed tuned for the return of Scare Tactics, hosted by Shannen Doherty.
