CBS’s annual broadcast of the Rankin-Bass perennial holiday favorite Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer ruled the airwaves during the 8:00 p.m. hour Tuesday, despite competition from headline-maker Paris Hilton and the brand-new animated special I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown, which premiered on ABC.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the stop-motion Rudolph drew 13.7 million viewers to Charlie Brown’s 10.5 million. The third installment of the highly publicized Paris Hilton/Nicole Richie reality show The Simple Life lured 10.8 million viewers from 8:30 to 9:00, scoring a win in the sought-after 18-49 demographic.
Rudolph’s ratings are especially impressive considering it is the second time CBS has aired it this season. The hour-long adventure of "the most famous reindeer of all" turns 40 years old next year.
