Rights Sold for New ‘Cabbage Patch Kids’ TV Special

Producer Galen Walker has acquired the rights to animated the beloved toys The Cabbage Patch Kids for a new TV special, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The producer, who is producing a new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie for Paramount, has a script in the works for an animated TV special for the Kids.

Walker and CWA Carlin West Agency, a company created by former 4Kids Entertainment exec Carlin West, acquired the rights from Original Appalachian Artworks.

A previous animated special, The Cabbage Patch Kids Christmas, was produced and first aired in 1985.

The popular toys were created in the late 1970s by Xavier Roberts and exploded in popularity around 1983, with shortages prompting parents to pay hundreds of dollars on the aftermarket to satisfy their children’s Christmas wish lists.

The dolls have over the years been produced by Coleco, Hasbro, Toys R Us Kids and Mattel.
