Further proof that animation is spreading throughout all areas of entertainment, Speed Racer Ent. has licensed the Classic Speed Racer animated television series to SPEED Channel, a fast-growing U.S. cable outlet dedicated to the high-octane world of motorsports.
Originally produced in Japan in 1966, Speed Racer first appeared in U.S. syndication in 1967 and quickly built a loyal following. The series was then re-aired on MTV in 1992, and was picked up by Cartoon Network from 1996 through 2000.
SPEED Channel SPEED Speed Racer debuted on Tuesday, Nov. 18 and is giving it an aggressive programming schedule. It airs Monday-Friday at 6:00 p.m., Monday—Sunday at 7:00a.m., Saturday—Sunday at 7:30 a.m. and Friday from midnight to 2:00 a.m.
The first and only 24-hour cable network devoted exclusively to motor sports and the human fascination with speed, SPEED Channel (www.speedtv.com) is currently seen in more than 57.1 million U.S. homes and 4.5 million more in Canada. The outlet was acquired by Fox Cable Networks Group in July 2001.
Speed Racer Ent. owns all rights to the Speed Racer animated series and also manages all related licensing and promotional activities on a worldwide basis.
