Citing Nielsen Media Research findings, Nickelodeon announced that it was the most-watched kids’ network of 2007, delivering 2.1 million more total viewers than closest competitor Cartoon Network. Nickelodeon is heading into its 14th year as the top scorer with all core kids’ demographics and basic cable’s leader in total day viewership among kids and adults.
The Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group also generated substantial growth in the digital space in 2007 earning the top spot, according to comScore, in terms of visitors against competitors Disney Online and Cartoon Network Online. In terms of the duration of visits, the Nick sites averaged more than 88 minutes for each of its 23.5 million visitors for 2007, besting its nearest competitor by more than 5%. The broadband (TurboNick, Nick Jr. Video and Parents TV), video-on-demand, and wireless platforms collectively accumulated more than 2 billion content streams for the year.
Nickelodeon’s 2007 television performance was driven by a number of highly successful programming events, including the premieres of the new live-action series iCarly and The Naked Brothers Band, as well as the 20th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards, preschool favorite Dora the Explorer and the movie event SpongeBob SquarePants: Atlantis SquarePantis.
