A total of 4.2 million viewers tuned in Monday to catch Nickelodeon’s new animated primetime Jimmy Neutron special Operation Jet Fusion. The Columbus Day event saw a 35% spike in viewership over the same period last year. The special also lifted kids’ 6-11 rating levels by more than 54% over last year and drew 1.7 million tweens, an 81% jump in that demographic.
Operation Jet Fusion stars Christian Slater as the voice of the title character, a movie icon who leads a secret life as Agent X, an international man of mystery. Jimmy’s dream of meeting his hero come true when the boy genius is recruited by a top-secret spy agency to rescue Agent X from the nefarious Professor Calamitous (Tim Curry) and his daughter Beautiful Gorgeous (Wendie Malick). Michael Clarke Duncan lends his voice to Commander Baker, head of the spy agency.
The special was No. 1 in primetime on basic cable for the night, among overall adult and kid viewers. It was also the No. 1 kids’ show on broadcast and basic cable, coming in first among kids 2-11, kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14. It will air again on Friday, Oct. 17 at 9:00 p.m.
The TV special coincides with the release of the Jimmy Neutron: Jet Fusion video game from from THQ, which is now available for PlayStation 2, GameCube and GameBoy Advance. Read more about the game in the upcoming December issue of Animation Magazine.
