Even before NATPE kicked off this week, Corus Ent.’s Nelvana was closing deals with top broadcasters in a number of key markets. Among the animated properties to get picked up were George Shrinks, Cyberchase, The Berenstain Bears, Max & Ruby, Medabots, Braceface, Beyblade, Taina and Maurice Sendak’s Seven Little Monsters.
Beyblade has been acquired by SABC in South Africa, TV2 Hungary and Polsat for Poland. It will also air, along with Medabots, on French TELETOON in Canada this month. In addition, Televisa Mexico will broadcast Beyblade this year.
The Berenstain Bears has been sold to Canal J-France, Yle-Finland and TV2-Denmark. Santa Claus Brothers and Fairly Odd Parents are set to air on Antena 3 in this month.
Multivision (MVS) Pay TV Pan Regional Latin America committed to new seasons of Maurice Sendak’s Seven Little Monsters, Cyberchase and George Shrinks.
Disney Spain will go another round with Moville Mysteries as SuperMax picks up The Sausage Factory, Taina, Fairly Odd Parents and Braceface for broadcast in the Czech and Slovak Republics.
Both TELETOON France and Australian Broadcasting Corp. (ABC) picked up the third season of Cyberchase. TELETOON also renewed The Magic School Bus while ABC re-licensed Neverending Story.
John Callahan’s Quads! season two sold to Canal Plus Scandinavia while Norway’s NRK picked up The Sausage Factor. TF1 bought TV and video rights to the Franklin special, Back To School With Franklin. Rounding out the list of sales is the acquisition of Pelswick and Max & Ruby by Nickelodeon Asia.
