National Geographic Animates Adventures In Color

National Geographic Television & Film’s (NGT&F) Kids’ Programming and Production unit has optioned the acclaimed Adventures In Color children’s book series and plans to develop and produce an animated television series based on the popular franchise. The property’s original author and designer, Tony Porto, and his team at Three Communication Design (3CD) will develop the series with Emmy Award-winning animation director/producer Ron Myrick.

Announcing the development deal, Donna Friedman Meir, president of Kids’ Programming and Production for NGT&F, says, “The Adventures In Color books take a unique and entertaining look at our colorful world. They are smart, funny and make you say ‘Wow!”all key elements of National Geographic Kids TV productions. We can’t wait to give broader exposure to these exciting adventures.”

Adventures In Color is the brainchild of Chicago-based creative firm 3CD and its partners, Porto, Glenn Deutsch and Mitch Rice. Get Red! An Adventure in Color and Blue Aliens! An Adventure in Color are the first two books in the series. The third book is due out in 2005.

Myrick is working on storyboards for the television series. His credits include The Adams Family, Sonic The Hedgehog, Inspector Gadget, Baby Looney Toons, The Incredible Hulk and the 2003 Daytime Emmy-nominated Ozzy and Drix. He is also producing the animated sequel to the 2003 live-action movie Kangaroo Jack.
