Having won the Press Award, the Audience Award and the Special Jury Award at Annecy Int’l Festival of Animation in Annecy, France, Harvie Krumpet will soon be introduced to the rest of the world. International distribution rights to the 23-minute stop-motion animated film have been picked up Monster Distributes.
Written, directed and animated by award-winning Australian filmmaker Adam Elliot, Harvie Krumpet tells the story of an ordinary man who is seemingly cursed with bad luck. But despite being born with Tourette Syndrome, being struck by lightning, having a testicle removed and developing Alzheimer’s disease, our hero finds love, freedom, nudity and ultimately the true meaning of what it is to be human. The story is narrated by Oscar-nominated actor Geoffrey Rush (Shine, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl) and features the voices of Kamahl, Julie Forsyth and John Flaus.
The short was produced by Melanie Coombs of Melodrama Pictures with the support of SBS Independent, Film Victoria and The Australian Film Commission. Bill Murphy edited the project and Peter Walker and the team at Soundwaves provided sound services.
Monster Distributes is an international distribution company which finances and distributes television series worldwide. The company’s animation catalogue includes the Oscar-nominated short Give Up Yer Aul Sins and the award-winning clay-animated special Ape.
