Daily Variety reports that Marvel Enterprises has filed a lawsuit against the Walt Disney Co. claiming the House of Mouse owes the comic book giant $16 million for animated shows licensed to Fox Family, which Disney bought and renamed ABC Family.
Marvel claims that Disney has failed to accurately report profits earned from such cartoon series as The Incredible Hulk, X-Men and Spider-Man. According to Marvel’s filing, Disney contends that it took a loss on the shows but refuses to provide documentation to back it up. Marvel also cited Disney for failing to properly promote the properties.
When Disney bought Fox Family in 2001, it assumed all distribution rights to the animated series in question, which Marvel produced with Saban Ent. for Fox Children’s Network.
Marvel recently settled a suit against Sony over merchandising rights to the Spider-Man films.
