Paris-based animation and live-action studio Kayenta Prods. was the winner of the Best Children Show Award for the series Ca Cartoon at the 16th Annual Night of the 7 of Gold (La Nuit de 7 d’Or) in Paris last night. Produced by the French magazine 7 Jours, the awards are the French equivalent of the Emmys, and incorporate reader votes to determine the best productions on French television.
Ca Cartoon has been a familiar fixture on French cabler Canal+ for the past 18 years. Hosted by Philippe Dana and Ludivine Laveine, the Sunday night series (airs at 7:40 p.m.) offers seven full-length cartoons per episode. It also uses classic characters from the Looney Tunes repertoire and mixes them with the live-action adventures of the hosts, Philippe the crazy ACME scientist and Ludivine, the toons’ manager. This marks the fourth year Ca Cartoon has won the 7 D’Or award.
“It’s always exciting to work with the Looney Tunes characters,” says Thierry Rivard, general manager of Kayenta Prods. “This psychology is weird and fascinating: It’s just like interacting with human beings!”
Also making toon news was France 3’s The New Adventures of Lucky Luke (Xilam, Citel, Dargaud Marina) which was the winner in the Best Animated Series category.
