Melissa Gould, an award winning TV writer and producer whose credits include Lizzie McGuire, Party of Five and Beverly Hills 90210, has been tapped to serve as co-exec producer and head writer for Fashion Angels. A co-venture for TripleTake Media, Surprise Bag Inc and Fashion Angel Enterprises, the series is based on a lifestyle brand for tween girls and will blend live action and animation a la Lizzy McGuire.
Created by Mark and Goldi Miller and Myra Mouloudji, the Fashion Angels are four girlfriends- Bebe, Debo, Izzy and Lulu- who love creating fashion and having fun. At the core of the product line are elaborate fashion design kits that contain a doll, glitter, ribbons, sequins, glue and puffy stickers that girls use to design their own wardrobes and accessories. Other products available at specialty and high-end retailers include plush dolls, doll playsets, doll wigs and sketch books.
Gould will co-develop and co-write the TV concept with Surprise Bag founder Frank Saperstein, who serves as exec producer. The pilot episode will follow the Fashion Angels as they enter the High School of Visual Arts in New York City.
‘We have some wonderful comedic stories and strong relatable real life situations that resonate with our audience in their everyday lives, some randomness, all of which ring true to the iPod generation,’ says Saperstein, who was nominated for an Emmy for his work on Nickelodeon’s The Ren & Stimpy Show.
