With new episodes of Futurama airing on Comedy Central and spurring new interest in the series, Tribune has signed up for a new weekend off-net syndication deal for the animated series, reports Variety.
The deal will see the show begin airing in fall 2011 on Tribune stations in such major markets as New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Washington, Houston and Dallas.
“With renewed interest in the animated series, thanks to its successful return on Comedy Central, we felt that this was the right time,” Twentieth TV EVP/general sales manager Paul Franklin told the trade.
The Futurama weekend run has been cleared in 30 percent of the country.
