Brand management and home video entertainment company FUNimation Prods. Ltd has acquired U.S. rights to the hit Japanese animated action property Fullmetal Alchemist. The announcement was made in conjunction with the unveiling of the upcoming Fullmetal Alchemist video game from Square Enix and Aniplex at E3 in Los Angeles.
Fullmetal Alchemist the series follows the adventures of 15-year-old Edward Elric, who uses the science of matter and transmutation in his quest to find the fabled Philosopher’s Stone. Joining him on his journey is Brother Alphonse, whose soul has been encased in a suit of armor.
The show is scheduled to make its U.S. broadcast debut this October on Cartoon Network and a DVD release is expected at the beginning of 2005. For more information, see www.fullmetalalchemist.com.
