HIT Ent. has announced that Pierce Brosnan has signed on to be the new narrator for the award-winning children’s DVD and television series Thomas & Friends. The actor, best known for playing Remington Steele on television and James Bond on the big screen, has already started work in London and will make his debut in Thomas & Friends: The Great Discovery, a direct-to-DVD special set for release in the U.S. and U.K. in the fall of 2008.
Brosnan will lend his distinctive voice all English-language releases for the Thomas brand, including three upcoming Thomas & Friends television series and three DVD specials. In taking over the role, he follows in the footsteps of Ringo Starr, Alec Baldwin, Michael Brandon and Michael Angelis.
‘One of my fondest memories as a father was sharing the stories of Thomas the Tank Engine and watching the series with my children when they were young,’ says Bosnan. ‘I am thrilled by the opportunity to be the Narrator for this beloved series, following in the shoes of so many famous names, and helping introduce Thomas & Friends to many more generations of children.”
Thomas the Tank Engine was originally created by a father for his son. Today, the series is enjoyed by families in more than 140 countries and is translated into 25 languages. The show is shot at Shepperton Studios in the U.K. and can be seen on Nick Jr. and FIVE in the U.K., and on PBS and PBS KIDS Sprout in the U.S.
