Madrid-based integrated brand management company Elastic Rights has signed a deal with global licensor ShoPro Ent. to represent ShoPro’s new animation properties MegaMan NT Warrior (42×30) and Mirmo! (52×30) in Iberia. Elastic Rights will be pitching both properties to Spanish and Portuguese buyers at MIPCOM 2004.
MegaMan NT Warrior‚ based jointly on the hugely popular CAPCOM MegaMan video game series and the leading Shogakukan CoroCoro comic book line, is set during the Cyber Revolution of the year 200X and follows the adventures of a fifth grader whose alter ego is a virus-fighting, virtual super-hero named MegaMan.
The Japanese animated series airs in the U.S. on Kids’ WB!, where it has been pulling in high ratings among the 9-14 crowd. A host of international deals have also been signed with Fox Kids channels in Germany, France, Greece, Holland, Spain, the U.K. and Poland, as well as TF1 in France, TVNZ in New Zealand, RTL2 in Germany and TV Tokyo in Japan. Elastic Rights will handle rights for free TV, home entertainment, merchandising, publishing and promotions for Spain and Portugal.
Mirmo!, from the producers of Pokémon, is aimed at kids 7-12. The title character is a blue love fairy who is found at the bottom of a cocoa mug by an energetic eighth-grader named Katie. Mirmo, prince of the Muglox world, promises to help Katie with win the affections of class heartthrob, Dylan, but often fails to make good on his promises, to comic effect.
First launched in 2001 as a serialized comic in Shogakukan’s leading girls’ manga, Ciao, Mirmo! then debuted as an animated series on TV Tokyo in April 2002. It also recently began airing in France on Canal J and M6, in Italy on Mediaset, and in Latin America on Cartoon Network. Elastic Rights is handling rights for free and pay TV, home entertainment, merchandising and promotions for Spain and Portugal.
