Lassie is coming back — in animation.

DQ Entertainment and Classic Media unveiled at Cannes a promotional trailer for a new 3D CG-animated series based on the loyal canine hero.

The series will consist of 52 11-minute episodes and has a budget of about $11.6 million. The series was greelit by ABC Australia and German broadcaster ZDF.

Based on Eric Knight’s Lassie Come Home, the series stars a brave collie that helps keep 8-year-old twins Zoe and Joe and their animal friends out of trouble.

The series is set to debut starting in the summer of 2011.
