Disney announced that it will debut Disney XD, the boy-focused re-branding of Toon Disney, on Friday, Feb. 13 at 12 midnight (ET/PT). The girl-inclusive entertainment brand for kids 6-14 will revolve around a 24-hour, ad-supported basic cable network that will feature Disney’s hit comedy series Phineas and Ferb, while introducing the new animated shows Kid vs. Kat from Studio B Prods. in Vancouver and Jimmy Two Shoes from Breakthrough Animation and TELETOON in Toronto. The line-up will also include live-action shows such as Aaron Stone from Shaftesbury Services II Inc.
Gary Marsh, president of entertainment for Disney Channels Worldwide, comments, ‘Boys, like girls, place incredibly high standards on their entertainment choices. They demand complex, multi-faceted characters that, while not perfect, are smart, selfless, determined and brave. Disney XD will deliver those kinds of characters and stories in a wide range of formats–animation, live action, movies and sport–and it will focus on the core value of accomplishment.’
Other animated offerings on Disney XD will include new episodes of the animated comedy Yin Yang Yo! From Walt Disney Television Animation, and
two short-form series. RoboDz is a CG-animated and live-action comedy produced by Disney and Toei Animation in Japan, and Bruno the Great is an animated series produced by Studio Bozzetto & Co. SRL in Italy. Also set to debut on the channel is Kid Knievel, a 2D animated comedy from Walt Disney Television Animation. A premiere date for the Robby Knievel-inspired series will be announced shortly.
Joining the Disney XD schedule this spring is The Spectacular Spider-Man, produced by Culver Ent., a Sony Pictures Television Company. The popular show will join fellow superhero toons Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Spider-Man and Iron Man on the in the lineup.
Preview episodes of Jimmy Two Shoes and Kid vs. Kat will be available free of charge through the iTunes Store on Feb. 5. The shows will then be previewed on on Disney XD on Feb. 13 at 8:05 p.m.(Jimmy Two Shoes) and 8:20 p.m. (Kid vs. Kat). The preview episodes will also available for free on Xbox 360 on Saturday, Feb. 14. New episodes of Phineas and Ferb will premiere daily Monday, Feb. 16 through Friday, Feb. 20 at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 will see the regular timeslot premieres of Phineas and Ferb (8 a.m.), Kid vs. Ka (8:30 a.m.) and Jimmy Two Shoes (9 a.m.). A new episode of Ying Yang Yo! will follow at 10:30 a.m.
Also debuting in February is Disney XD.com, an immersive online and mobile interactive experience offering numerous games, exclusive video, fan pages, community elements and a unique personalization feature through which users can create 3D avatars to represent them across the site.
