DIC, Mainframe Give Inspector Gadget CG Treatment

Everybody’s favorite bumbling, bionic crime fighter, Inspector Gadget, leapt off the animation stand to appear in the flesh in a pair of live-action features in 1999 and 2003. Now DIC Ent. and Mainframe Ent. are teaming up to give the cartoon super sleuth a CG makeover for an all-new Inspector Gadget television special and DVD release.

Mainframe will distribute the special in Canada, Australia and the U.K., while DIC will handle the title internationally. Home video release in the U.S. will be overseen by Lions Gate’s Family Home Ent., a division of Lions Gate Ent.

“Transforming classic characters like Gadget from 2D to high quality 3D CG is becoming a Mainframe specialty,” says Mainframe CEO Rick Mischel. "As a co-distributor, this high-profile project also fits into our ongoing efforts with IDT Ent. to distribute programs featuring well-known branded characters."

In the new special, Gadget is back protecting Metro City from the heinous machinations of the evil Doctor Claw. With niece Penny and her dog, Brain, in tow, the inspector must retrieve a prehistoric giant flying lizard egg from the clutches of Claw before he can use it hatch an evil scheme. The CG Inspector Gadget is expected to make his debut sometime in 2005.
