CNX to Become Toonami

July 7, 2003 by Ryan Ball divider image

Turner Broadcasting’s new anime and action/adventure cable outlet, CNX, is set to undergo a rebranding that will name it after a popular Cartoon Network programming block, according to Digital Spy. In September, the channel will become Toonami.

Originally targeted at males 16-34, CNX devoted daytime hours to kids with the addition of the acton-oriented Toonami block. The popularity of the block on both Cartoon Network and CNX has led Turner Broadcasting to gear CNX entirely to boys 10-15 with such programs as Dragonball Z, X-Men: Evolution, Justice League, Batman of the Future and Samurai Jack.

Toonami will join Cartoon Network and Boomerang as a Turner entity dedicated to animation.
