Classic Media Cooks Up VeggieTales Sales

Classic Media has inked multiple sales in several major territories for its enormously successful, CG-animated series, VeggieTales. The MIPCOM showing marks the 10th anniversary of the faith-based family franchise, which has sold more than 35 million videos since its debut in 1994.

Rights to the award-winning series have been sold to Niche Marketing and Crossroads in Australia and New Zealand; Top Tape in Brazil and Chile; Sam Film in Iceland; Maxfun Arthouse in Hong Kong; Pandasia Entertainment in Taiwan; Cheers Media in Singapore and Indonesia, IPA in Thailand and Vietnam; SPI Int’l in Poland, Hungary, the Czeck Republic and Slovakia; Softrights in South Korea; Video Art in Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia; LUK Int’l in Portugal and Prooptiki Entertainment in Greece.

Starring Larry the Cucumber and Bob the Tomato, VeggieTales puts a new twist on biblical stories. The property has seen 26 titles released to home video and has gone on to spawn a line of books and PC games, as well as a live tour and a successful theatrical feature titled Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie.

Classic Media is developing a new live-action Lassie series with Firstsight Films, a live-action/CG Underdog feature film with Spyglass Ent., a live-action/CG Mr. Peabody & Sherman project with Sproketdyne Ent. and a live-action The Lone Ranger movie with Columbia Pictures and Academy Award-winning producers Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher (Gladiator, Stuart Little) through their Sony-based Red Wagon Prods.
