CBeebies Gets Hopping with ‘Peter Rabbit’
CBeebies will be the U.K. broadcast partner for brand-new CG animated series Peter Rabbit, a co-production of Penguin, Silvergate Media and Nickelodeon U.S. (also lead broadcaster). The series will debut on the kids’ net with a special one-off Christmas episode this December, with a 52 x 11 series launching in Spring 2013.
The new series is a re-imagining of the classic tales, with brand new storylines in line with the wit, humor and magic of Beatrix Potter’s world. Set in the Lake District, the show follows the adventures of mischievous Peter and his friends: loyal, comical Benjamin Bunny and new character Lily, an inquisitive, independent bobtail rabbit.
The broadcast later this year coincides wit the 110th anniversary of the publishing of Beatrix Potter’s The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Frederick Warne (now an imprint of Penguin Children’s Books). The classic kids’ book has sold over 150 million copies worldwide in more than 35 languages. Penguin will be supporting the 2013 series launch with a full publishing program and additional licensed merchandise to follow.
