Cartoon Network Promoting Truancy?
With tongue firmly in cheek, Cartoon Network is urging its young viewers to skip a day of school in September. On Labor Day.
Don’t Go back to School Day will feature CN fare highlighting the travails of life at school. "School is a drag, and Cartoon Network has the proof," heralds a CN press release. Taking the opportunity to expose the horrors of cafeteria meals, bullies, crazy teachers and peculiar field trips, the daylong schedule includes episodes of Dexter’s Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, Cow & Chicken and Whatever Happened to Robot Jones? The block will run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., just in time for the family BBQ to start.
National holidays are often used by cable nets for program marathons–24 hours of Beavis & Butthead, Gilligan’s Island, The Brady Bunch and the like. For one thing, the nets can hit "play" and send most of the staff home. For the full schedule check out Cartoon Network’s Web site at http://CartoonNetwork.com.
