Atomic Betty, Ultimate Muscle, Robotboy, The Cramp Twins and Garfield are among the latest acquisitions and co-productions for Cartoon Network Europe. The shows are slated to join the lineup on network’s U.K. outlets.
Atomic Betty is a sweet, brainy girl with a secret identity – galactic guardian and defender of the cosmos. Cartoon Network has pre-bought 26 half hours of Canadian/French co-production created by Vancouver-based Atomic Cartoons. Breakthrough Films & Television in Canada and TeleImages in France co-produce the series, which will launch on Cartoon Network U.K. in the fall of 2004.
Robotboy, a series about an adorable super-robot with serious firepower, is currently starting production at Alphanim studios in Paris. The Cartoon Network Europe and U.S. co-production with Alphanim is scheduled to blast off on Cartoon Network U.K. in 2004.
Cartoon Network and TV Loonland are at work on a second season of their co-production The Cramp Twins. The first season earned high ratings on Cartoon Network’s European channels, prompting sales to more than 50 broadcasters worldwide. The 52 new episodes will air on Cartoon Network U.K. in 2004.
Rounding out the acquisitions are Ultimate Muscle and Garfield and Friends. The wrestling centered Muscle was acquired from 4Kids Ent. for launch this year on Cartoon Network U.K., while Garfield will debut this summer on Boomerang in the U.K. Television rights to the 25 year-old property, created by cartoonist Jim Davis, were recently acquired by Tremendous! Ent., which plans to produce and distribute a 25th anniversary TV special.
Two new pilots commissioned by Cartoon Network Europe have been delivered and are now being evaluated. They are My Best Fiend from Gorillaz creator Pete Candeland and Stu Connelly and Good Kid Bad Kid from Chris Garbutt and Dave Needham.
