BBC Three, the channel that brought you Monkey Dust, Angry Kid and the BBC Three Blobs, is accepting entries for the BBC Three New Animation Award. The six best animations will be shown on BBC Three and the overall winner will be funded to develop a series of their animation for the channel.
The awards are open to any animator who may have produced animated works but who hasn’t had a director credit for work shown on U.K. terrestrial television. All styles of animation will be accepted, provided the projects cater to BBC Three’s 25-35 year old audience.
To apply, entrants must send ten seconds to a minute’s worth of animation on VHS, DVD or CD ROM with a brief summary of the idea and contact details to: BBC Three Animation Award, BBC Animation Unit, Broadcasting House, Bristol BS8 2LR. The closing date for applications is Friday, September 12, 2003. Rules and regulations can be found at www.bbc.co.uk/talent.
Entries will be whittled down to a shortlist of 20, which will be shown on the BBC Talent web site where the public will be able to vote online for their favorites. A BBC Three panel will then select the six most promising animations, taking the online vote into consideration.
The BBC Three New Animation Award is part of this year’s BBC Talent campaign, a unique initiative to find and develop new broadcast talent in the U.K.
