WGBH Boston, PBS, Marc Brown Studios and CINAR Corp. today announced the launch of a new half-hour spin-off television series based on Buster, a popular character from the Emmy-winning-series Arthur. Postcards From Buster, slated to join the PBS KIDS 2004 fall line-up, will employ animation and live-action footage to promote literacy and multicultural understanding among school-age children.
CINAR holds the worldwide home video distribution rights the worldwide television distribution rights outside the United States for Postcards From Buster. The company also has a pending agreement on educational rights, including those for educational publishing and video worldwide. This agreement should be confirmed in the near future.
The production is another step in CINAR’s growth and diversification efforts. By participating as an equity partner and retaining the video and educational distribution rights, the company is leveraging improtant revenue and profit opportunities, according to CINAR president and CEO Stuart Snyder. Buster also represents an effort to reach beyond the pre-school market and offer programming for older kids.
