Looks like a name change may be in order for this year’s Animation Magazine Pitch Party winner, Life’s a B!tch from creator Paula Comensky. An adult-oriented animated series with the same title is set to air on CTV/ The Comedy Network in Canada and Oxygen in the U.S. Life’s A Bitch, a Canadian/Philippine co-production between Cinemaria and pasi (philippine animation studio inc.) will feature the voices of Mo Collins (Mad TV), Khandi Alexander (C.S.I.: Miami) and Elaine Stritch (Small Time Crooks), with cameos by well-known media personalities.
The irreverent and politically incorrect Life’s A Bitch takes a comical look at the dysfunctional lives of the thirty-something generation. The co-producers have combined various technologies and animation pipelines to create a hybrid digital/traditional animation pipeline to produce this series on a tight budget.
All pre-production, from scripts through digital color design and exposure sheets is being produced in Canada with pasi doing animation in the Philippines. Aside from the principal creatives, the pipeline consists of 15 artists trained in traditional animation techniques, Flash, Animo, Toonboom, Cool Edit Pro, Streamline and Photoshop. Animation director Oscar Perez breaks down the storyboards to determine which scenes are best suited for traditional, Flash or a combination of techniques.
Exec. Producers on Life’s A Bitch are Caroline Maria of Cinemaria and Frank Saperstein of pasi. The series is scheduled to debut fall 2004.
