ADV Films announced the creation of The Anime Network, the first television channel in North America dedicated to the Japanese style of animation known as anime.
According to ADV Films president, founder and ceo John Ledford, the Anime Network has been in the works for some time but the company felt that the market and the culture weren’t ready for it until now. He also says that “the television outlets that currently carry anime aren’t meeting the potential demand. They offer very limited selections of titles, and only during very restricted hours."
The Anime Network will broadcast anime related content 24 hours a day, creating some stiff competition for Cartoon Network’s popular Adult Swim block, which was recently expanded to five nights a week.
With the new cable outlet, ADV Films plans to cover the entire spectrum of anime with four different categories of programming: Action Zone, Sci-Fi, Comedy Incorrect, and Horror/Martial Arts. The company will soon release information on availability.
