Angela Shapiro, president of ABC Family is expected to step down this week as part of an organizational shakeup, according to The Los Angeles Times. The publication reports that the Disney-owned cable channel, which airs animated and live-action programming, is being incorporated into the ABC Cable network group due to performance issues, and that Shapiro’s role will be diminished as ABC Cable head Anne Sweeney takes charge of programming.
Shapiro was named president of ABC Family in March 2002. Neither she nor Disney execs have commented on the issue. Disney reportedly urged Shapiro to stay on as president or assume another role within the company.
