During its Upfront presentation in New York City, Disney-ABC International Television announced 11 new series to be joining its various broadcast outlets for the 2007-2008 season. Among them is a half-hour comedy titled Slacker Cats, which will be the first animated series for basic cable network ABC Family. The show is slated to premiere in primetime this August.
Slacker Cats will revolve around two feline pals, Buckley and Eddie, who slack their way through various unimpressive adventures. The series features the voices of popular stand-up comics Harland Williams, Sinbad and Emo Philips, as well as Alex Borstein (Family Guy), Kiersten Warren (Desperate Housewives), Nicole Sullivan (Mad TV) and Niecy Nash (Reno 911!).
The series marks the American television debut of Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley, the BAFTA Award-winning creators of the British sci-fi comedy series Hyperdrive. Starring Nick Frost (Hut Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) Hyperdrive followed the futuristic misadventures of a rag-tag spaceship crew on a mission to convince alien governments to relocate their businesses to Britain.
