4Kids Ent. has licensed the new animated TV series RollBots from Amberwood Ent. for broadcast in the U.S. during The CW4Kids Saturday morning block on The CW Network. Amberwood has also named 4Kids the worldwide merchandising and licensing agent and brand manager for the property. In addition, 4Kids will manage global licensing opportunities based upon likeness, designs, copyrights, trademarks and all other elements based on the animated show.
Commissioned by Canada’s YTV, RollBots is a computer-animated action-comedy with 26 episodes currently in production. The show revolves around perfectly round robots with arm and leg appendages that retract, allowing them to roll at extreme speeds on roller-coaster-like tracks through their world, Flip City.
‘Featuring a community of hundreds of robots with their own unique language, grouped into specialized tribes, we see many of the same promising elements in RollBots‘collectibility, transformation and racing’as we have in some of our most successful brands for this target audience,’ says Alfred R. Kahn, chairman and CEO of 4Kids Ent.
RollBots is expected to premiere in February of 2009 on TheCW4Kids in the U.S. and on YTV in Canada. The series will be introduced to consumers prior to its TV launch through the RollBots Online Gaming Experience, produced by Xenophile Media, on www.YTV.com. Amberwood will handle international television distribution, introducing the property to other territories at MIPCOM Jr. in October. 4Kids will work closely with all licensees of the RollBots brand, including recently signed Master Toy Licensee Mattel.
