7/1/02 DigiCel Hopes To Make Animators Flip

FlipBook 3.5 Released

With the release of the latest version of its FlipBook software, DigiCel Inc. promises improved support for digital video capture and stop motion animation, as well as addition to added compatibility with newer capture cards.

With Flipbook 3.5, DigiCel claims to have worked out some bugs that previously existed between Flipbook and some drivers supplied by capture card manufacturers so that FireWire (IEEE-1394) digital video capture will be more reliable.

Traditional Animation Features:

For pencil tests, Flipbook 3.5 will right the output from a digital camera mounted to a copystand by rotating the captured image 180 degrees without any loss in performance. The software will filter out the white color of the paper, rotate the pencil test image and position it in the xsheet.

The new version also adds an onion skinning feature, which allows animators to overlay a live camera image onto a previously captured drawing. This feature is also beneficial to stop motion animators.

Stop Motion Animation Features:

In addition to onion skinning, Flipbook 3.5 offers enhanced "one-touch capture" and frame replacement capabilities. Once a frame has been captured, the animator can instantly preview the entire scene and either reshoot the added frame or continue with the animation.
